Re: Alfaowner access issues - RESOLVED

From Bobda posted on Piston heads

"The connection issues are all down to a nameserver at the host.
There has been an error somewhere and the nameserver has sent out the wrong information to ISPs DNS servers, causing the attempted conenction to AO to be sent to the wrong address.

The information gets updated by ISP DNS servers sporadically, so you may find it takes some time to sort itself out and there will be ISPs which can connect and ISPs which can't.

In the meantime, try setting your browser to acces Open DNS instead - apparently this has updated OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet

The other option is to use a proxy...

Re: Alfaowner access issues - RESOLVED

I've finally got back on after changing to OpenDNS.
Does anyone know how long it would take my normal DNS to be updated? Are we talking hours, days or weeks?
And what is the difference in using OpenDNS as opposed to my ISP DNS?
Sorry if its a silly question but I'm a bit clueless when it comes to the technical side of ISPs and DNS!

I'd have posted that on here but I think it's already been covered by other people - I just collated it and posted it there to help those who don't have access to AO.

I had to use that OpenDNS method as it still doesn't work for me otherwise.

Re: Alfaowner access issues - RESOLVED

Afternoon chaps.....

It's finally decided to allow me in after 2 days

..... and I have a simple question.....

Why should I change my computer set-up when every other site I want to access is working?

It sounds like the wrong solution if the problem is elsewhere.

Re: Alfaowner access issues - RESOLVED

Comes and goes for me!: Talking to Mr. Nomes about Breras and so on, and then had to go down town for a bit, tried again on my return from town, then just 404 with aol! But got back on again now with Firefox.: Although that wouldn't work either, earlier.: All a bit hit and miss for me, not knowing a DNS from a bunch of conkers!:

Me think it's because of the highlighted bit above

@GibboMuppet... haven't you got a marriage to be attending to!

Maybe it was fetching the page from the cache'? Anyway, some others were able to log on and then got kicked off and were unable to log on for hours. Not sure how the DNS works when those symptoms are experienced?

Ah..... sorry didn't see that post...... so it will all be resolved without us changing our computer set-up..... that sounds much more reasonable

I certainly don't understand it....... hence my concern about altering my set-up to correct another problem
