Lets have a tuning company competition
Hi since we have a few tuning companies on the board both powerbox and remap. Why don't all the companies post there performance figures lets say based on the 1.9 150bhp jtdm so that everyone on the forum can see the pro's and cons of the different products. Obviously the rolling road figures have to be independent but I would imagine any company worth its salt can organise that with no problem...I'm happy to go first if everyone else is in.
I keep suggesting this but it goes a bit quiet with no takers come on boys lets have a bit of fun

Re: Lets have a tuning company competition
Hey ho,
You say there are tuning companies on the forum but there are only really Angel, yourself and Jano (rarely).
I like to think I help out Red Dot as much as I can but I don't actually work for them.

I would add, that only companies that write their own maps need apply...

Why would you want to do that? - other than for your own personal ends (read PROFIT). Great idea though, so why don't you go first & publish YOUR figures here?

Re: Lets have a tuning company competition
While I have no doubt that your boxes do exactly what they say on the tin LT, I have no doubt tuners would not wish to partake in this said "Competition".
Angel, Red Dot, Celtic and AD Have stock claims freely available. I don't quite get what you want to acheive. Sure you can map a 1.9 JTDm to over 200 BHP. But then it's only a matter of time before you shag the clutch, turbo and the rest.

Re: Lets have a tuning company competition
Yep I will be more than happy to provide full rolling road figures, done independently by a specialist technical college and they are happy to verify the results.
As for why do it a. I'm sick of the remap good tuning box bad comments and b.whats wrong with making a PROFIT if you produce an excellent product. I will send our figures to the site admin tonight

Its not all about bhp we can take the 1.9 to 200bhp no problem its more about delivery and safety, in standard trim torque levels off at 2100rpm we have adjusted it so that it levels off at 2800rpm giving an additional 50ft-lb and a lovely spread of power in the mid range we've found 180bhp is the happiest level for a 159. I'm not trying to throw the cat in amongst the pigeons its simply a chance for us to show case our tunes and surely its of interest to forum members

Re: Lets have a tuning company competition
To keep the competition fair you would also need to do it with the same car.. Would you volunteer your 159? Rolling road it, remove the tuning box, stick on Red Dot's map, rolling road it, stick on Angel's map, rolling road it, stick on AutoDelta'smap, rolling road it, stick on Celtic's map, rolling road it and so on. Its a good idea but I can't see it happening, plus its pretty much academic that you can get massive improvements from either a remap or tuning box. I wouldn't put down your tuning box, its obviously good but there are dodgy ones out there.
Each engine is different, as is each rolling road. The differences between the maps aren't likely to be more than 5-10bhp, also each map may be differently suited to different induction set ups, etc..

Angel and Celtic may have gotten their maps of Red Dot but they have done their own development work on them since, adjusting what they see fit and going down different avenues, like Celtics FMIC set-up.. Its hard to say what is a "safe limit" for mapping a car, its more a gray scale than black or white. There's so many variables in car maintenence, driver technique, pure luck, whether or not a car with a remap is reliable, other than just the remap itself.
A good idea for a project LT, but I don't see it happening so simply.

Weekend toy: Alfa 156 3.0 24v V6, Silver with red leather, Q2 diff, GTA Teledials, headlights & inlet manifold, AutoDelta carbon intake, BMC CDA, decat pipe and SuperSprint rear box, FK coilovers, Dastek Unichip - my 245bhp beast!
Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

I get the feeling this might be more to do with those power-box things Autolusso sell too...

I think LT's units are different from the Steinbauer P-Box that Ned sells?
Am I correct?

Yes, I think that's correct. Although I'd be very interested in hearing reports from people who have had such systems fitted, or indeed independent evaluations of the various systems, I'd hate to think that this was a back-door way of getting a bit of free advertising...

As you appear confident, let's see the figures then - if you want to sell your product. I can plug my laptop into any OBD2 port & alter the fueling maps to give horrendous bhp figures - but I'd probably give you an engine that grenaded within 200 miles...
