Lag time for the AO Thread Manager

As per the instructions in http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/forum...ager-info.html I edited a duplicate post, inserted the word "remove" in the title and waited. Nothing happened in over half an hour. I re-edited the thread and tried "Remove" just to see if that would trip the system. No result.

Have there been changes to the way the system operates or am I just being impatient?

I am not sure how Ian set it up, but I don't think you should receive a PM from the Thread Manager when you edit your own thread title. You should receive a PM when someone else (ie a Mod or Admin) edits your thread title though.

Can't Ian set it up so we can get a PM from the AO Thread Manager even when none of our posts are removed?!

Hans, you are right, you don't need to be notified of something you already knew about, you only need to be notified about deletions or threads moved by others etc...

We could make her notify you of thread stickies, or un-approvals / edits but I didn't want it to be over the top and become annoying, especially for non subscribers of the club that have limited Pm's available.

It's not the PM that was the issue. It was the fact that the thread wasn't removed after the better part of an hour. I was just trying to figure out how long it takes to actually delete a thread.

I just checked and the thread is still there, hours and hours later, and it's starting to accumulate posts (which is exactly what I was trying to prevent by "removing" it).

So has the "remove" function been disabled or did I not follow the proper procedure? If that's the case, what is the proper procedure?

If you type 'Remove' in the thread title, the AO Thread Manager is not going to remove the thread. The thread will only be deleted when either a Mod deletes it or when we clean up our database when we doing major maintenance.

Thanks for the explanation. That wasn't made clear in the instructions on the previous thread. The old write-up made it sound as if the removal process was automated.

So do we need to PM the mods when we "remove" our threads or are you alerted automatically?

The Mods don't get notified. So when you want a thread removed, you can send a suggestion to the Mod who's online

So in other words the previous thread is flirting with fiction rather than dealing squarely in reality.

Here I thought there was a neat, automated way to lighten the mods' workload. Oh well, live and learn.

Basically, if we delete or move your thread etc... you will receive a PM telling you where it has gone and why, thats all the thread manager does... I don't know where you got the other ideas from

I remembered reading something about an automatic procedure for deleting threads, so I looked it up to make sure there was a procedure in place. Apparently (according to the post mentioned above) there was, so I tried it.

I have slightly edited the linked post, anyhow, the thread manager will only PM you once a moderator actually removes your post. I hope that it is clearer now? Or may be its me

It's all perfectly clear now (and has been since posts number 7 and 9 on this thread). It's just that when I tried it I was acting under the impression that the advice in the linked post was accurate.
