Reporting Threads rather than Posts

Maybe I'm missing something, but why don't we have a report thread facility? [or do we but I'm a bit dim to find it?]...

Yes, we can report posts but what if we don't want to single out any given post for reporting. To be a bit more clear, lets say a thread degenerates into a mud flinging exercise and you just want to say that in your opinion the thread should be locked rather than point at a post, dare I say an individual in particular.

Perhaps under "Thread Tools" ? Of course you could just select the first post in a thread and report that I suppose. Not a big issue or anything, just a thought

Reporting the first post in the thread is probably the easiest short term solution, as you say.

If a thread has deteriorated to a point where it's meaningless or just too unpleasant, then it doesn't matter which post is reported. Just pick one that illustrates it and report that - a note to the mods would suffice. I'm certain thay would study the whole thread anyway and make a decision based upon that.

I did say it's no big deal, but sometimes finding the post you want to report to "illustrate" your objection in particular isn't always easy [pointing the finger?] as I did say. Already suggested the first post be reported which seems to fit the bill for now and perhaps that was my point, to share my thoughts.

Some how I doubt that. And in the case that I was referring to I know they didn't. I just don't think they have time to read though a whole thread

Yes Mr Z, that's why it's best to report the offending threads/posts rather than getting involved therein. Best practice really, although sometimes temptation can take over

Well I tend to just drift on by, as is my wont with most things in life now. Can't be bothered much with owt,' even eat the burnt toast I make. Boring old fart, of the first order, Ich bin. As if nobody wasn't already aware of this.

Sometimes entire threads can drift into something that is potentially damaging to AO in terms of reputation.

I've only ever reported a couple of posts which I found objectionable.

One was acted upon immediately the other was ignored - fair enough. When you do report one you get a chance to write what your objection is- that's your chance to comment on the whole thread. Use words - it ain't difficult.
