Re: AO is Googletastic

I've noticed that too
I don't like it if my handle pops up as one of the threads though.

You remember Urchin.js? That's what that does. actually maybe it's a good idea to switch off google integration for the off topic lounges???

I often use google search tos earch AO as AO search is wank but more oftne than not it comes back with a load of Darrens drivel topics

I think if you google "Cars for sale" or "I want a new car" you get the same result!

Re: AO is Googletastic

Thanks for noticing

Yep, I confirm Darren can drivel quite a bit, in fact loads as can many others here :notguilty:

Any how, I have to correct you there Ghosty buddy, I personally spent the last 12+ months understanding and fine tuning the Google site maps with the lots of help from articles on the net in order to produce these results.

We submit every day to Google and three other major engines, what we are submitting to Google are all of our urls that we wish their spiders to index to offer joe public. Google then enters the site at different times of the day and verifies the links we submitted and then includes them in their searches, the fine tuning is the thinking of all the possibles and split word combinations people would search for, to keep up the top we often change them. Also we have to stay on top of how Google rates pages & content, if we dont we start to drop down the listings and we just cannot have that!!

By using the urchin software Ghosty speaks of, we can capture how visitors arrive at AO and their browser info which aids development, we also get to learn which keywords are typed most often, its a long process and one I religiously do every month.

Lets take the "Technical & Vehicle Assistance" section.
If some one searches for "Alfa Romeo assistance" on Google, ask etc we should at least come up in the list. We were first and second position and in third place were Alfa Romeo themselves Of course we will fluctuate positions from time to time.

Also small detail helps because despite this site being for just Alfa Romeos, we still call the model sub forums Alfa 147, Alfa 159 etc as this helps with content relevance.

There you go... I started the thread suggesting I do not drivel
