Cambelt Advice threads

How about putting a locked "Cambelt Advice" link under the Technical lounge so it's more of a notice than a lounge?

It should have a brief summary of what to expect and when to change by model with an indication of the typical costs of preventive replacement and corrective measures should your bella grenade itself.

I think it might save a lot of newbies time and be a useful resource. The subject crops up enough to warrant it I'd have thought.

Re: Cambelt Advice threads

Sounds like a good Idea we have a buyers guide sticky in the GTV lounge

The only problem I can see is if it is officially sanctioned by AO you could get a fruit loop billing AO for their engine rebuild after a failed Cam belt stating "I did what AO told me and it still failed"

and they are out there

Re: Cambelt Advice threads

AO can easily word a disclaimer in the piece stating this is general information supplied FOC and in good faith but we do not represent.... and cannot accept any liability....if in doubt refer to your authorized AR dealer.... blah-blah-etc.

I'll do it if they want - the disclaimer not the guide! But I do not accept any liability should it fail to stand up ina court of law.

It just seems to me to be such a waste of both newbs and AOer's time to keep seeing the same thing every few days. A newb is more likely to spot a link at the home page stage but won't necessarily be au fait with searches.

I agree Sir J

It does waste Time

I'm sure Ian will let us know the exact legal side of it

Not at all. Recommendations are recommendations. The advice we give is still better than what most dealers would give. We would not be responsible.

I think a FAQ section would be a good idea. I think each tech section should have a sticky for each vehicle. "What to look out for"

Re: Cambelt Advice threads

I think people can use the search function, not sure we need a specific sticky thread.

BF - I think the evidence is that newbs tend not to do that before posting up the inevitable cambelt thread. This is understandable as they won't yet be familiar with the search or site generally and will come on looking for an immediate answer.

It happens so often I thought it worth suggesting it had its own sticky or such like.

Still, it is only a suggestion not an order.

Re: Cambelt Advice threads

I personally think Alfa Romeo should trace all registered keepers throughout the world and send out stickers to attach to the instrument panel which says like the AA advert

"Don't foget your cambelt mate"

Downside is the cost would be prohibitive but if it saved one owner the suffering of a cambelt failure that would be priceless.
My reason for this is Vauxhall sent my wife one for her Vectra about putting on the handbrake properly.More wording on hers tho' but means they same.

also newbies usually come here after the cambelt failure,i know i did
