Re: GTV Still Wanted

I've just turned up 3 nice looking 2 litre motors within 100 miles of my doorstep (Hartlepool) on the AutoTrader website - dunno whether that's local enough for you?

2 @ 60K on the clock for 4K, and a 29K example for 5.5K (seems steep).

And no proteo red! (one is alfa red mind)

Hope that might be of some use fella!

Yes - it's 1998 (so older than 2001), not in the NE of England and has over 70k on it.

Thanks anyway.

It's got 65k on it.

It's in SE of Scotland, 90 miles from Newcastle, but there's no getting away from the fact that it's a '98 car.

My mate Giuliano was going to sell his. Silver GTV 2.0. I can't verify the age of the car, but can vouch for its condition. Will find out more 4 you if you are still interested.

Buy a used ALFA ROMEO GTV Car - Auto Trader UK

<specify the distance in the top left, that doesn't seem to be wanting to "stick" in the above link>

Is giving the 3 I found yesterday. Two are private sales, so I've no idea of the location, the blue one is a garage and the area code puts it Manchester way, so probably too far for you.

Silver one with 29K looks very nice, but 5.5K for a seven year old seems steep to me (I am an honourary Yorkshire man though, so that could be something to do with it seeming steep!)

Plenty of cars down south for sale, dunno why us Northerners seem to shy away from them in the first place?

If it's no older that 2001 with less than 70k, all keys present, FSH, totally standard with a , recent cambelt change and in the NE of England, I'm interested.

Not that I'm fussy of course.

Mate, there must be LOADS of cars that meet your specification out there, it really is a buyers market out there right now. Just bide your time a little longer and something that you love is bound to turn up.

Although, I do find it slightly odd that you want a 2001 model when the 2000 models are identical but fall into lower tax bands,

But to each their own!

No problem - it was just that one of the reasons you dismissed it was for the mileage being over 70k, and I was just pointing out that it isn't.

Hope you find the right car for you, anyway.

Cheers Darren, my Cloverleaf is 2000, so I dont really want an older car. Howver if a minter (not Alan) was to come up for sale, an older variant would be considered.

It might be your best bet, especially with the new tax laws and everything mate, whether you are gonna get a 2 Litre TS or a 3 Litre V6 it would be much cheaper on tax to get a 2000. Plus, you can still get a 2000 with decent mileage.

A 1999 GTV V6 with FSH and 53,000 miles on the clock went for £2250 on eBay the other day, but it was similar to Proteo red, not a fan to be honest,

Good luck anyway bud,

Re: GTV Still Wanted

I know it - I saw that one and the colour put me right off straight away. It's horrible.

The FIAT Coupe option is looking quite healthy as they are going for silly money. Only trouble is finding one that hasn't been "tampered with". As soon as I see "Samco, Peko, K+N, Hybrid Turbo, Dump Valve" I run a mile.

Re: GTV Still Wanted

Yeah, you can pick up quite a nice Fiat Coupe 20VT nowadays for around £2000 or so. They are actually more economic than the GTV V6 and a bit faster.

I used to have a 20VT and it reutnred around 27MPG for the most part. Fast as Hell mind!

Modifications are nessesarily a bad thing. The reason why I fitted the baileys dump valve to mine is that the original bosch valve was sticking. I went for the baileys over a forge type recirculation one as it cost about half as much.

Stainless exhaust are always a worthwhile option, the original steel ones rust. The stainless one also sound better don't they Darren.

I would be wary of one that has been fitted with a large turbo, as it will also have a large intercooler and need to be run on super unleaded. Melted Pistons are also common on coupe's that have been tuned to this stage. (The standard internals are only just up to the job)

At a stage 1 level (GTEC 1) and 1.1 bar of boost they are pretty reliable. I think you will have a job finding a standard car that hadn't been chipped previously, and had the chip removed to be sold.

You are looking about 250bhp at 5800 rpm with 250 LB/Ft of torque at 2800 rpm with the GTEC 1 setup. I get between 25 and 30 mpg in normal driving, and will run on regular unleaded. I promise it is plenty fast enough for UK roads. 0-60 is about 5.8 seconds, 0-100 in about 13.5 seconds, and top speed around 160 mph.

The engine doesn't sound as good as a V6 GTV, but its better than a TS, although it isn't as revvy.

Fiat Coupe 20VT, mildly tuned to 260bhp
