That's what was worrying me a little, especially as there were/are quite a few "my wife's GTV" PM's!
The search for a Coupe begins, but alas there are quite a few locally in Spring Blue (not my favourite) and whatever FIAT's equivalent of Proteo Red is!

Re: GTV Still Wanted
I didn't feel a tart driving my GTV, in fact quite the opposite. It is more of a mans car than many other coupes I could mention.
Rosso, the Fiat equivalent of proteo red is called light red metallic BTW or "Rosso Chiaro MET"
I was talking to the owner of Solo Italia a few weeks back and he says the colour that is least popular is Scotts Green, with Ink Black not far behind. I like Portofino Blue, but he said that that wasn't too popular either.
Sprint Blue, Speed Red, Broom yellow and Steel Grey are most popular in that order.
"Driving a car is very much like making love to a beautiful woman. You should treat it gently during the week, and then Rag the arse off it at the weekend."

Re: GTV Still Wanted
To be honest, I think the Coupe doesn't look too bad in Rosso Chiaro and I quite like Scotts Green too; Ink Black is also nice but I don't like Sprint Blue; having said that I wouldn't say no to one if a good example came up.
I can take or leave Portofino and you probably won't like me for saying so, but I think the Silver variants can maybe look a little bland - then again if one comes up I wouldnt argue!
I prefer the solid red to be honest; I think I'm trying to delude myself into an association with Ferrari.
Ive been trawling the 'net today due to the ****y weather up North and my word, there are some Coupe dogs about!

Nothing - I'm just not prepared to travel to get one, as previously explained.
If someone darn sarf has a Coupe they want to sell at the "right price" and all the boxes are ticked I'll happily consider it if they're going to bring it to me and have it inspected first by the main man.

Re: GTV Still Wanted
To be honest I would have preferred if my car wasn't sliver, as its a bit common, but there are worse colours, and otherwise it ticked all the boxes..
I still think I would prefer a 3 litre GTV though, even if overall I think the coupe is a better car. If that makes sense..
The GTV is just a bit more "Special" and has slightly more soul than the Coupe.

Re: GTV Still Wanted
If I was to sell the coupe thats what I would be buying I think.
I can't afford a GT or 156 GTA yet so a 3 litre GTV it would be.

Re: GTV Still Wanted
I too was very very picky when buying my car so i totally understand that. My theory was that if you are going to pay fairly high prices for parts, servicing, cam belts etc.... the GTV is the preferred car over the Fiat coupe. The Alfa badge is better, the GTV looks better..just. The Fiat is a sort of poor mans Alfa.
All that said i do really want a Fiat coupe as well. Portofino blue with black leather.

Re: GTV Still Wanted
Red with black leather for me. 20v T, ideally.
The potential Coupe repair billsand running costs scare me a little though.

Re: GTV Still Wanted
I can't see a 20VT being much worse for bills than a GTV V6. The cambelt change costs about the same, so is a clutch change.
The Fiat also has simpler rear suspension, so there is less to go wrong.
However The Fiat has a turbo to go wrong, though they are pretty reliable, and exhaust manifolds crack unless you get one with the later design.
Insurance is similar, but the coupe uses less fuel.
Sort of swings and roundabouts really.

It's the high revs and the aggressive styling of the Coupe that I fancy as opposed to the V6 - but equally exasperating, thirsty and expensive I would imagine!

The 20VT isn't really a high revving engine though, maximum power is delivered at 5750 rpm. Once on boost though the torque is massive. Especially when chipped and fitted with manual boost control. It will force you back in the seat in every gear between 2500 and 6000 rpm.
The is not a lot of point revving it to the red line at 7000 rpm as the boost drops right off. Thats why some people fit GT28RS roller bearing turbos. They hold the boost better until the red line and with a front mount intercooler and uprated fuel pump you are looking at over 300bhp easily, with torque to match.
The front tyres won't last long though..
I think I will keep mine basically standard, and improve the cosmetics, it's already faster than a GTA, and thats more than enough for todays roads.
You should get a drive in one if you haven't already.

Yep, fair doo's, if you're willing to spend the cash you should be able to get exactly what you are after, even if it may take a little while longer,

Re: GTV Still Wanted
I always found that if I buy something that is not really what I want I end up getting fed up and selling it, no matter how good the car may be. It is worth waiting a while until the right car comes along.
When I had my 156 I really wanted a Fiat 20VT or a 3 litre GTV. Now I have the Fiat I still want the GTV...
Maybe I can save up and have both.
