Re: Insurance for Spider LE Contract Hire

I'm in the process of buying an LE and am having a couple of problems with the insurance. Having been on Moneysupermarket.com I'm getting a quote for £473 with performance direct (not bad as I'm 25 ). When I go through P.D.'s site directly though, it's coming out at £1100. I'm therefore a bit apprehensive about trusting the £473 quote as I have a feeling they've made a mistake somewhere (even though I'd put the details in twice to check!). Have any of you had any experience using these (or any other of the comparison sites)? Spent a few hours today looking through a load of sites and frustratingly, most assume you'll be the owner of the car. Can anybody recommend anybody (other than the ones already mentioned)? I'm currently floating around the £1000 mark but I'll be trying A-plan and a few others tomorrow.

Also, I know the finance company will be legal owners of the car but what about the registered keeper? Is that the finance company also or will it be in my name?

Sorry for the noob questions - I'm a bit new to contract hire. Hooray for my first post though - hopefully first of many!

EDIT - Just re-read the posts above. Looks like I would have to enter the finance company as registered keepers. That's that question answered then!

Re: Insurance for Spider LE Contract Hire

I took out insurance with What Car Insurance (which is really Liverpool Victoria insurance) for the BMW on line and it didn't give me an option to specify it was a lease car. I rang them up afterwards and they updated the details for no charge to record I am not the registered keeper/legal owner. Shop around if you do have any problems.

That sounds like a plan. Cheers mate.

My current best quote is £750 with Green Light insurance (Highways Insurance) which isn't too bad. Will try to get it down a bit more though.

Thanks for all the feedback, think I'm nearly there. Performance Direct seems the likely option at the moment.

Also have looked into GAP Contract Hire insurance and will use GAP Insurance, Payment Protection, Back to Invoice and Early Termination Insurances arranged by ALA Insurance if the Alfa GAP insurance is too pricey.

All I need now is the car

Re: Insurance for Spider LE Contract Hire

Out of curiosity, did you insure it as a standard 2.2 JTS? The LE doesn't come up on any of their databases yet and I'm not sure whether to declare the extras or not. In the event of an accident where, for example, the wheels got damaged, I could see them trying to pay out for just 17" replacements rather than 19".

Re: Insurance for Spider LE Contract Hire

they cant be declared as extras as they are standard kit for the car - just phone them up and ensure that they note thats its an LE model.

Re: Insurance for Spider LE Contract Hire

Hey get this, adding me (31 year old male) as second driver to my fiance's (26 year old doctor) Spider LE policy DROPS her insurance premium by over £200!! Guess I'll be insured on the Spider for sure then!

That is normal. I always used to have my dad on the policy just to make it cheaper. I guess they hoped he'll be driving it some of the time and not me!
