Manual or Automatic?

Hey guys i just wanted to ask you which one of the two transmissions you prefer...
If you asked me 6 months ago i would definately tell you manual as i was so against automatic cars but now things have been changing a bit... Im slowly slowly becoming a automatic fan because of the use of too many technologies now. For example the TCT transmission is great because when you wana drive relaxed you have it in the automatic mode but when you wana have some fun you just switch it to manual using the paddle shifting behind the steering wheel. So basically its never gonna be a full time automatic car therefore you have some choices to make. Id like to hear some of your ideas.

Personally I'll always prefer manual, not only for the fun, but because it makes me feel that I have the control of the car.
The automatic feels... well, is "automatic", you don't have control, and when you turn it to the "manual" mode the gear change doesn't feel like "real" gear change, it feels like you press a button on a computer and the gear changes.
Despite that, the automatic is a lot more relaxing especially for the everyday, city/traffic drives.
If I had this luxury I would choose an automatic car for the everyday jobs and a manual car for the weekends
(but if I had to choose only one car I would go for manual)

Agree with Nikolas regarding the feeling of controlling the car. Manual yu are in total control. Auto (or what ever they call it thesedays), what ever yu want to do is filtered by the CPU and if the CPU agrees then is done. Another factor is the fact that when yu have a much much more complicated gearbox, it is always more probable to face a prblm at some stage. And in case yu face a prblm , a manual gearbox can be sorted out by any mechanic, while fr any type of auto, not sure if there are any people around that can sort it out. And the cost for repairing an Auto will be huge compaired to the manual.... So my opinion is stick to the manual stick

im really confused as i like both. the only thing is that its very tiring driving a manual car thesedays... but i agree that with a manual gearbox you control the car more and it feels much nicer... therefore TOTALLY confused!

It depends what the car is and where you're going in it. Big luxo barges need auto boxes so you can waft about in them. High revving four pots need a manual to keep them on the boil. That said, my Mum used to have a Corsa 1.2 automatic which was a hateful car in every way apart from when I used it for my daily commute in heavy traffic.

Personally, I don't get along with semi-automatics of any kind. My clutch foot instinctively goes for the clutch whenever I change gear.

Yes! That's another "sad" story...

But I am sure there are many people who disagree with us (I sense Costantinos is one of them )

If you have a 147 or 156 Selespeed then you are in trouble because the actuator which costs around euro1700 will need replacement at least once. Haven't driven the TCT yet but definetely don't like the selespeed.

So is not a matter of manual or auto operation but how reliable are.
