Poor mazda RX owners...

Hello Guys

Did you here what is about to happen to every mazda RX owners in Cyprus?
The law has changed and instead of 55euros per year they will have to pay 514 euros per year

I've got to say, even though I am not a big fan of the RX8, that is trully shocking
I don't want to even imagine how I would react if I was in their position!

No, I think it's by the emissions.
The EU says, if lets say you have a 1.3l wankel car it has CO2 emissions as a 2.6l cars so for the Road taxes it is considered as a 2.6l car, based on the emission, or something like that,... I didn't read any more details to be honest.
The Cypriot goverment now says that until now, by mistake the RX8s were considered as 1.3l cars instead of 2.6l.
Well... they fixed that mistake now

I've not heard about this, but it was one of those Countries that weighted their scrappage scheme so the amount you got off of a new was dependent on the CO2 output of the new car purchased.

Seemed much cleverer than our scrappage scheme, but perhaps having a scrappage amount dependent on CO2 wouldn't have benefitted those making cars in the UK?

man its becoming really disgusting to live here now days

I remember when I bought my first 16v 33. Road tax was around 30 cyprus pounds at the time - approximately 50 euro.
Then the idiots decided to change the law and my road tax was 220 Euro !!!!
I got so ****ed I didnt renew my road tax for that year

If I was an RX7 or 8 owner, I would make the ministry of transport a drive through and torch it on my way out !!!

Bloody idiots !!!! As if its not enough that they charge us ILLEGALY tax on imported cars from the EU

I really really hope, all these idiots that make these laws , get a taste of their own medicin one day ! All driving around in cars that WE paid for , with fuel that WE pay for, with NO road tax and TAX FREE cars, enjoying the fat salary that WE pay them so they can make us misserable !!!!!!!

Rant over for now... sorry I am a bit sensitive on the subject

Well...
Let's see what will happen.
Last Saturday many RXowners had a protest outside the presidential house, demanding that the new road taxes should only apply to new RXowners (the ones who will by a wankel car from now on).
I think that's fair, but I am not sure if the goverment will accept that.
But if you think about it there is another bigger problem for these people now.
It will be extremely hard to sell these cars now.
How many people will want to buy a RX8 and pay 500 euros every year on Road Tax ?

yes I know the feeling !!!

Our goverment pays a fine to the EU every year because they tax us on imported cars, and thats fine with them because the fine is less than what they steal from our pockets !
Why on earth should we keep paying the road tax for our cars to our goverment and be legal, if our goverment choses to be illegal so they can keep ripping us off

as for the resell price of the rotary cars now, I didnt think about that ! i guess they are stuck with them now... and all their problems ....

Recently I heard on the radio that if our goverment continue to do this (charge us illegaly for imported cars), the EU will increase the goverments fine by 6 times.
Let's hope this will happen any time soon and end this.

Actually in reality according to our import tax aswell we DO NOT HAVE to pay the import tax. I will quote what the article of the tax CUSTOMS & EXCISE - Vehicles - Vehicles from member states of the European Union - Under relief from excise duties and VAT

2. Community status of vehicle
Goods in free circulation in the EU move from one member state to another without payment of further Customs import duty. To be exempt from paying further import duty in Cyprus, proof of Community status of the goods must be provided. If you are transferring to Cyprus a vehicle for private use from another member state, you may prove its Community status by producing:

for a brand brand new or used vehicle, T2L or Τ2LF document; or
for used vehicles, the number plates and the vehicle registration document issued by previous member state.

The T2L or Τ2LF document can be obtained from the previous member state Customs Service or through your vehicle supplier or the shipper
In case of failure to provide above mentioned proof of vehicle’s Community status, the importation will be classed as having arrived from a third country and the vehicle will be liable to import duty in addition to the excise duty and VAT.
According to this WE SHOULD NOT have to pay it and you can demand not to pay it when you import the car. However if you call to the customs office and ask about this they say there is no such rule. At least thats my understanding to it. Anyone that can ask them? They already blew me off once and im UK now for my MBA so i can't call from here.

There is quite an even split of economical and non economical cars made in the UK, i can only imagine the government wanted to guarantee a return on their scrappage scheme investment so they set a standard price. Also, other European countries have a set price which is what ours was based on.

????????????????????????????

I think it would be better, if you find a map, try to find where Cyprus is located, then google a bit about the country's history (don't go way back just the last 100 years) and then think again about the comment that you made

Have you ever been outside Oxfordshire? Now that you have a new car better do it, learn your country's history first and then being sarcastic about other Countries.
