HV 50 Alfasud ti.
As suggested by Supercharged16v I thought I'd ask a question on here about my old 'sud, HV 50.
Bought it new from Demades in Limassol in August 1976, a Series 1 1.2ti, took me many happy miles around the island. When I returned to the UK in 1977 I wanted to bring it home with me but back then then trying to sort out shipping and the paperwork required to do this with a Duty Free car proved insurmountable so it was sold back to Demades, oddly enough for more than I'd paid.
The last time I drove it was to the Bonded Warehouse in Limassol Old Port, a sad October day that was.
I have been told that it was sold on to a guy from 280SU in Troodos and that he subsequently wrote it off as he overcooked it on a bridge near Ypsonas on the old Lim - Epi road. Very sad if true but could it have been repaired and put back on the road ? You guys out there are renowned for repairing what would be considered lost causes almost any where else so I suppose anything is possible !
Even if no one knows it doesn't matter that much, a little story to help kick off your new Lounge. Would be nice to know though..........

Thanks for the post Nige
As I mentioned before, I made a phone call. By tomorrow afternoon I will know who this car is listed to , and if its still on the road , or if its been scraped and recylced
I hope its not the last.
We might even find the last owner if we are lucky
Would you be willing to buy it back if still alive ?

Its amazing how you kept these pictures for all those years.
I'm guessing you didnt have a digital camera at the time, so you probably scanned these pictures
Nicely done
The car looks in mint condition from those pictures, I hope its still out there

All from 35mm Slides. I had about 1500 of them and finally got a lot of them back from Cyprus after they had ended up there after my divorce. Took me weeks and weeks to scan and edit, some of them were in pretty poor condition. None of them stand up to close scrutiny and being enlarged too much. Happy memories none the less.
It was a smashing little car and the reg number was really cool. I paid off the loan with lots of banknotes with pin holes in them, can you guess where the money came from !

Nige, I'm afraid I dont have good news for you
The car was last on the road on December 1990.
It was kept for many years, probably did some time in a scrap yard as well, and finally it ended its life in a metal recycle company
Sorry mate...
Someone owned it and drove it for many years though after you left Cyprus ! Some guy in Limassol was the last owner

Bad news but not unexpected. It did have a longer life than I thought though, I was under the impression that it was written off in about 1980. Seems like someone enjoyed it for a longer time than I thought so that's something.
Happy memories still, first new Alfa, did some courting in it and lots of sunny days in every respect.
Thanks very much for your help, much appreciated. I'll be popping in here now and again to see how things are going. Sadly my memories of Cyprus are a little soured by what happened in my personal life there in the mid 90's but in 1976 it was all golden days, Keo and Anglais Brandy !
Catch you all later.

Was nice to know the ending even though it wasn't all good news.
Wouldn't it have been fantastic if the car was still being cherished by someone there.
A BIG thanks to Supercharged16v for taking the time and trouble to find this information.

Yep would of been really good if it was still plodding around, woul dof been even better if she was currently for sale, i would of snapped that up right away!
Would of fitted in nicely at one of our meets and if i could convince clare to drive it then we would have the 75, kevs sud, marks sprint and then this! that would be one hell of a line up i think

To be honest if it had been for sale I don't think I could have resisted it. Even though I don't want a 'sud right now ( not that I don't like them 'cos I do, just time for something different ) but as I'm a soft old sod I would have had it just out of sentimentality, lots of memories in that little car.
Whoever owned it here in Lincs you are dead right, what a cool line up that would be.

Couldn't resist the chance to put another picture up.
Here is HV 50 now three weeks old having it's first holiday at a now unrecognisable Nissi Beach, Ayia Napa, August 1976. Car now gone, Nissi Beach and Ayia Napa gone in this form for ever and as for me..........!
Not me in the pic by the way, my good friend Ian who sadly died in the early 90's. See what I mean about sentimentality ?

sorry to hear about your friend mate.
and you are right about Nissi beach not being this way any more.
It was no trouble at all finding out this information. I have my resources
... by the way guys... if anyone wants to spy on their wifes... I've got resources there as well
Have in mind though, that even if your sud was still a car, and not a coca cola tin, it would have been SOOOOOOOOO rusted !!!!! Probably beond any repair ! Must have been the reason why the last owner gave up on it as well...
Nice pictures Nige

Nice pictures Nige
Cyprus has certainly changed a lot over the years, somethings for the better, others perhaps not so good.
It was nice to know what happened to HV 50, thanks for that !!
As for the offer to spy on now, the ex wife, no thanks, I already know too much !

Nothing wrong with sentimentality - comes with age.
Lovely period photos of an iconic car

I know the feeling very well, I'm pretty hyper here too. Got back from the pub a couple of hours ago and I'm still twitching pretty well.
This is due to the fact that I was out earlier looking at an Alfetta GTV6 that I'm rather smitten with, once again bitten hard by the Alfa bug. Frankly it makes little sense to buy a 27 year old Alfa but I think I will, please send down the line a few bottles of Keo asap to render me even more senseless than I am already.
