if it works I will be very keen to do the install myself!
You will need to keep the force in control at the end of the opening though, as I imagine a lot of force will be needed to push the boot past it's pivot point.
Seems like a great idea but I,d check that the mounting points for the gas struts will take the extra load required when closing the tailgate as well as hinge mounting points:thumbs:
"Alan Sprint" Good Points, however, I have had the springs custom made to hopefully give enough upward force for the boot to open enough for the gas struts to take over.
I may be totally wrong but for £2.40 per spring its worth experimenting.
Looks good although it is impossible to actually see what you've done in the video.
Any chance of some close up shots of the mod please.
Does it make the boot any harder to close?
Also I would be a bit worried what would happen in a multi story car park or somewhere where there is a low roof.
I suppose no different to now you would just need to lend a hand to it to stop it hitting.

My wife did this to our one week old Porsche Cayenne It has an automatic boot opener and she didn't check to see how low the roof was in the multi storey car pack before she pressed the button inside the car to open the boot :tut:
It's going in to a local detailer to get detailed for winter, so hopefully he will be able to polish out a fair bit of the scratch!
The boot closes exactly the same and needs no additional effort to close.
I would not know about multi story carparks as my mito does not go in them in fear of getting dents, however most carparks should allow for a boot to open!
As you say a good hand hovering over should be fine, but the boot does not fly open it is controled and steady.
I would just like to test this for another day or two to check for defects, however I have been opening and closing the boot all day (mostly to see the reaction from passers by) and can confirm that it has not failed once.
Even better lets see a YouTube to dazzle us with this boot popping action.
(A caveat though, if ever you take your bella through a car-wash (heaven forbid) make sure you lock your car). :cheese:
i need this in my life immediately! really looking forward to the details!! i realised how much i need this tonight, walking to the boot with hands full of beverages of the alcoholic kind, scrambling with half a hand trying to find a key then not being able to open the boot. This ended up with cans rolling off through the car park.
The lesson her is I NEED THIS!
Totally awesome!!! I've gotta see that again... brilliant m8!
I really don't understand why it doesn't do this as standard, Alfa have missed a trick there! (Windows open when you hold down the unlock button, the boot should pop open too).
Well friend, don't keep us in suspense (please give us some detailed instructions) to let us know how to mod our boots so that we can all get in on this boot-popping action too.
I wonder how many people are watching this thread for details almost every day! Haha, the suspense is denying my beer cans!
