Window collapsed.

Yesterday I went to put the passenger window down, heard a loud bang and the window just dropped, tried putting it back up but nothing happened, and to make it more annoying it was tipping down with rain.Took to Bradleys Alfa Romeo and they checked it over and said the window regualator had broken. They checked my warranty and it had run out in May,so its gonna cost me £175 to get it replaced
Anyone else had this problem?

A month out of warranty - I'd push ARUK for an exception.

Its not dodgy Alfa electrics, the part is probably supplied by someone like Brose, who supply a multitude of oems the same type of assemblies

I agree.

I was in the same situation with Ford a few years ago. My electric window fell in to the door (when it was raining!) and they wanted nearly £300 to fix it. I phone Ford customer services and they, in the end, decided to go half-shares on the cost of the fix. So it would be worth you making a phonecall. You could cite poor quality of parts/build, which it obviously is.

I'd phone ARUK and try your luck, they might replace it free or go halfers with you. They can only say yes or no.

Go for it, sale of goods act, not acceptable, I have FDSH etc. etc.....but be nice, dont get angry or nasty, I bet you will get some goodwill.

Unless you dont have a dealer service history, in which case youre on to plums with the goodwill.

yep i have hd my window regulator changed on the drivers door last year, the regulator cabe just chewed itself up and it stuck in the down position. Also evry car I have owned with electric windows has had the same problem, that is renault, Vw,Rover, seat, Bmw.
Why they do not make manual windows and have electric ones as an option across the range is beyond me, i would much rather have manual one as they are lighter, and hardly ever go wrong
