Turning off the Seatbelt Warning Bong

Hi,

The seatbelt warning noise is really starting to drive me insane, since I quite often carry things on the passenger/back seats, and it will randomly trigger.

I've asked my local dealer (Glyn Hopkin Romford) and they quite blatantly said no, it cannot be disabled, and I quote, "because it's illegal - it's a safety system", and then went on to lie about trying to disable it on staff mitos and it not working.

I seem to remember some people on here have managed to get it disabled - would anybody know what I need to tell them to do to disable the noise (or is it something I can do myself with FiatECUScan?).

Thanks!

Fiatecuscan will turn it off. Having done that its now in the menu onboard, unless it was always there of course.

Put stuff in boot or on the floor away from the strain guages, whats the problem? the feature is needed to gain NCAP ratings

The other classic is to get a belt clip from an old car that has the same style fixings and plug it into the passenger side - easy to remove and stow in the armrest

I personally don't care about NCAP ratings - and I do have stuff in the boot, as well as on the back seats usually (I usually carry a lot of computer equipment between locations), and well, i'd rather use my MiTo than get a van :P

I have the visual lights to tell me if a passenger has taken their seatbelt off - i just don't want the bong - a red light being triggered by a monitor in the back seat wont bother me, but the beeping is horrible!

Why not just fasten the "offending" seat belt?

aye but it's got them now. NCAP ratings mean nothing once you own the car, and a feature that is not an integral safety feature is just a slightly patronising and pointless feature that also happens to be very annoying. get it disabled.

my one's never worked on my new car - and i'm pleased about

I'm sure there was a thread about this years ago where some people had got it done at the first time of asking with no problem but others were told it couldn't be done.
I think it was also established that the sensors aren't very evenly calibrated as some people were having it go off over barely anything being in the seat which was driving them mental, while other people could put reasonably heavy bags on the seat without it triggering so they didn't have an issue with it.
