DECISIONS! 1.4 (95) or 1.6 (120)

Hello there,

The time has now come to decide between the 1.4 (95) and 1.6JTDM (120) 2nd hand Veloce mito.
What is the cost for servicing between both, mpg figures, reliability and also how well they drive?

Any help would be much appreciated

How many miles you travel per year? How much short trips?

I drive a 95 and i must say the mpg isnt good at all. Ive averaged 32 mpg. It can be good on a run but short journeys through town can be bad

I average about 52.5 in my 1.6, a good hilly thrash in dynamic reduces to about 45mpg, steady run Wakefield to bath last week I got 71mpg...

I think it's great, loads of torque.

Drive both and you'll get the diesel!

Might not be best financially, depends on miles, I do 30k a year...

If you're doing lowish mileage per year, below, say, 12,000 per year its not worth it

If you only do short journeys, it'll never warm up in the winter and give poor consumption and the dpf will get clogged.

If, however, you do reasonable mileage and journeys of 20 miles+

Its worth having the diesel.

Just remember that diesel is about 8p per litre more expensive and this can ofset the consumption difference.

Ultimately, you need to drive them and see which you prefer.

I wont be doing much milage, 6000 miles a year at the most, so probably the 1.4 would be better

If you can find one of the early 1.3JTDM, might be worth a test drive. Despite just
90BHP, it's got lots of torque, a six-speed gearbox, low tax (£30/year) and no DPF
to clog so fine for short journeys. Will easily better 60MPG on longer trips!

There aren't many around though, so good luck...

For that milage I would say definetly 1.4. 1.3 if has no DPF, no matter. Short trips would be the problem for every diesel.
