Ever tried to change a tyre on your Mito?

Well don't ! it is the most awkward system they've adopted. Maybe its because I have aftermarket wheels but getting the wheel back on is a game and a half! You have two locating pins on the hub, you get the wheel on those and push it on but what you dont know is they dont line up the holes ! you have to keep jiggling the wheel to get the bolt in I'v changed the tyres on many vehicles but they were all easy peasy compared to the Mito !

The lesson I've learned is you need breakdown cover ! I wouldn't want to try to do that on the side of the road in the dark !

Those pins will only accurately line up a steel wheel.
On an alloy they will just go into a big recess in the back of the wheel.

Not unusual at all.

Get a line-up stud from a 156 toolbox. Screw that into one hole, locate the wheel on that and bingo! Unscrew it at the end and put the last bolt back in!

Has the MiTo toolkit definitely not got a big pin that you screw in to one hole, allowing you to locate the wheel on it?

Doesn't look like it.
No sign of it in ePER for the MiTO.

If you have locking wheel nuts then use one or two of the origonal wheel nuts (that are not used and given to you by the dealers).Cut the head off and make a slot in the end for a screwdriver to fit.

You have a stud to locate the wheel.

Or put your foot under the wheel and jiggle!

Pfft. Big girl.

Now, the Aygo I had before the Mito. Don't know why, but the wheels got welded on. Totally welded on. Took the RAC man 15 minutes with a lump hammer and a blowtorch to remove them. Not pleasant.

Unless you have a 156 GTA which had the brake discs upgraded. In which case the pin is too big to fit the space saver over, so you have to cope without it anyway.

My old Fiat had a pin you screwed in to one hole to help locate the wheel. I used to be able to change the wheel in 5 minutes flat on that old beast.

Tomorrow I'll take another look to make sure there isn't one of those locator pin thingys in the tool kit, pretty sure there isn't :rubchin:

Yeah, but if you think changing the wheel is bad, I can't wait for your DIY tyre change thread

I'm referring to the red pin included in the toolkit ( fig. 9 A on the attachment )
I've never used it for the spacesaver as the disc/hub locating pin ( fig. 7 B ) works on the spacesaver.

Are you saying that it was a bigger diameter with the 330MM ?

Sledge hammer, tyre irons & a few bits of angle iron required

And that's for a tractor tyre, good luck with low profile car tyres

The spacesaver and the alloys use different bolts. I thought I remembered the pin not working, but it was a while ago, and I could be wrong.
