Tapping to a switched 12V?

Hi all,
I need to tap into a 12v power line. I need it to be somewhere overhead, thought of the console above the mirror the shows the rear seat belts. Does this unit gets electricity only when the switch is on?
Also, does anyone have a scheme of that and how can I open it without damaging it?

the interior light can be switched on permanently so there must be a continuous live feed to it, think there are just a couple of screws holding it up.
