high consumption on mito 155

hello everyone. I own a mito 155 and im a bit worried about my fuel consumption. Its from the UK so i bet the mpg is in UK miles and it says 24mpg or 11.7L/100km.

To be fair i just bought it and ive been driving pretty heavy-footed(A lot) espcially after i got my K&N filter(Love the sound, it challenges you to put your foot down). Also its it mostly urban and small distance drives(like 2-15min).

I looked up Real mpg values and they say around 35-38 wich is not even close to mine. even when for one week I drove it normaly to check(not very slowly just carefull not to floor it) and the mpg was around 27-28.

My question is should real the mpg values they show in websites from customer reports (honestjohn.co.uk) be trusted?
and more importantly how do other owners of the mito 155 feel about their mpg and compared to mine are they much lower?

Hey greyfar, I own a 2010 155 manual. Am in Singapore. I've been averaging 10.7km/L when I'm heavy footed per tankful. And when I'm law abiding and lazy, I get up to 15.3km/L.
What's your driving mostly of? I get 70% highway for theost mileage tankful and running on 98 octane rating. Ambient Temperatures average around 32 deg Celsius.
Also what tyre type and profile are you using? Am using kumho ecsta spt 18R/215/40

I'm assuming you reset the trip counter before the normal driving week so the average mpg was just for your normal week? Was your normal driving week still just urban and small distance drives?

I don't drive mine much as I have a short walk to work. I don't do many longer trips - often it's local trips to out of town supermarkets (e.g. 7 miles away) and I do drive fairly heavy footed but traffic is too busy to be at full throttle for long. I tend to get 30-33mpg most of the time as a result. On a longer journey which includes steady cruising e.g. on a motorway keeping to 70mph or a bit slower with steady traffic then I'll get into the 35-38 mpg range. When I get the display to show the live mpg it's comical how low it goes on an up hill full throttle drag (that can also be useful though for giving a clue as to when driving is economical vs not).

27-28mpg does sound a bit low, but if it's still urban and small distance that is the worst environment for economy. Could be worth having your wheel alignment checked - it can affect fuel economy if its out (as noted above by LGan different tyres can have an effect too). Maybe worth tracking by resetting trip counter after filling the tank, then look at mileage (and how many litres you put in) when you then fill up again.

There have been other Mito 155 owners raise similar questions in the past although no conclusions:

Couple of 155 owners chip in with lower figures on this thread too:

NO! They are probably taken from the manufacturer's figures and you'd be hard pressed to get close.

Your short distances are not going to help at all. The 2 mins ones will barely allow the engine to warm up if from cold and so the fuel mix will be rich.

What K&N have you got? The panel filter (improved the fuel consumption on our 1.4 slightly!) or an induction kit? if the latter, it's probably sucking in warm air all the time which again is useless for MPG.

When was the last time it had a full service? new plugs "may" help (they need to be changed regularly) and going back to the standard airfilter may help. The only other thing you can go is drive it further!! Or walk! ;)

yes everything in a small town everyday. ive also found an isolated place and really proper practice race corners and stuff like that so really heavy footed. full service 2000miles ago. Ive tried checking the reliability of the computer the way you said with filling gas and checking etc and it was 0.1L/100km different than my calculations. So mito owners rest reassured that the computer is not messing with us.
The K&N is an induction kit placed inside the stock filter box to prevent the warm air problem you said. I recommend it and it had the K&N panel filter when i got it and i saw a difference of smoother acceleration like the car is not struggling to use its power throughout the rev range like before where you could relly feel the turbo kick. Now its smother and more accurate response to the throttle but i wouldnt say more accelerating. its the 57S series not the 57i

Well, what's published is conducted on a very strict test conditions which are a standard. The tests condition does not really mimic real world driving conditions and variables. Its basically for you to compare one car to another car on paper. And it's because Of the very strict repeatability of the testing conditions, companies like VW know how to detect it and then puts the car into cheat mode. So, really, it's not meant to be taken as an absolute. Hope this helps!

My average from about a month of 100% city driving is at 8.5L/100Km. That includes my girlfriend practicing driving for several hours in total. I'm not that heavy footed, but it's not like I eco drive. It's a mix. I'm actually impressed that we are on par with the city driving MPG estimate. I did service the car last summer and changed engine + gearbox oil. It's soon time for summer tyres, so hopefully MPG will be a bit better. To be honest I don't really care that much about MPG since I only drive a couple of times a week.

I've got a mito 155bhp and also in the UK, 09 plate and mainly rural driving and my average is around 36mpg. If i drive it on the motorway i can get it up near 40 mpg. On a full tank using bp fuel standard unleaded in try to get somewhere near 300 mile range. Shell is the next best fuel and nearly 280 miles per tank. Using supermarket fuels such as asda I have had as little a 230m per tank, i very rarely drive car in 6th as i find better fuel econ using 4th and 5th gear.
