Re: super unleaded........
Using a higher Octane number fuel on any alfa (maybe excluding some of the brand new models which are mapped to use at least 98 octane, you can check what this should be in your handbook) will not make any difference to MPG or indeed BHP.
The cars are mapped to run on minimum of 95 octane. Anything above that will not make any difference. You may find that the normal 95 fuel you put in is a bit crappy as the octane is more like 92-93. The knock sensor adjusts the engine timing to compensate, so you may lose a tiny bit of performance (mpg/bhp). If you buy 98, you are guaranteed (to an extent) that the fuel will be at least 95 octane.
Always use a garage that is busy to guarantee that you are getting decent quality fuel. Petrol slowly deteriorates whilst in the underground tanks at the petrol station as the vapour recovery isn't 100% efficient.
I use V-power as it is a better fuel, and has excellent cleaning additives. Also my car has been mapped differently to run on at least 98oct.
Tesco 99 (only sold at the main stores) is also very good.
It's not about the octane numbers anyway really. It's the energy in the fuel.
