V6 CF3 head gasket issue

Any thoughts on the head gasket which has broken by the water port on number 6 cylinder. All liner fire rings are intact and no sign of any other leaks. There is a fair bit of sludge in the bottom of the block water space which I have still to remove. The water pump is still to remove also. The car ran perfectly with the water temp just under 90 degrees once warmed up.

I have seen head gaskets rot away before but nothing like this but I was wondering if it may have something to do with the proximity of the cats in the exhaust manifold. Not the best photo but the damage is obvious.

That's almost the same place as mine, check my recent thread. I had water in the oil. Mine was a CF2, and rear bank. In the process of cleaning everything at the moment.

Thanks for the reply, since cleaning the head I have found a tiny imperfection in the head about 3mm in diameter and about 1/2 mm deep. Not sure if its cause or effect but I'm off to my local engineering shop in the morning, hopefully 10 minutes of tig welding and a skim will solve the issues . Pleasantly surprised by how clean the engine is internally.
