Just back from an 1100 mile trip in the Spider twinnie. Our journey started on the Portsmouth to Santander ferry, where we stayed overnight before setting off for the Picos de Europa mountain range two and a half hours west of Santander. This beautiful place is a driver's paradise (seen here is Mme Bukka more than a mile above sea level - the tyre marks are not hers!) and the little Spider took the hairpin bends and steep inclines in her stride.
After two-and-a-half days in the Picos, we set off to drive up through France on a variety of roads from local to Autoroutes. The Autoroutes gave her an opportunity to stretch her legs, sitting comfortably at 85mph for hours.
After a week's touring, we arrived home in Normandy with absolutely no technical issues apart from a top up of coolant. Surprisingly, the oil consumption was nil; petrol consumption averaged out at about 30mpg.
Not bad for a seventeen year old car, but the engine was replaced in 2007 and has done almost 50,000 miles, while the car has covered 135,000.
I can thoroughly recommend the Picos for an Alfa experience - we intend to return and see more of this beautiful area in the future - and of course, we will be taking the Spider!
