Did this today. It is easier from above but took me most of the day to get the inlet chamber off (note I am a complete beginner when it comes to Alfas- MG Midgets/Sprites are my thing). I used this excellent 145 guide Engine: Alternator Replacement - Alfa Romeo 145 - 146 Forum
. The main difference is that you definitely have to drop the front engine mounts to improve clearance on the GTV TS otherwise the cable mounting brackets on the bottom of the chamber wont clear the bulkhead. One added bonus from doing it this way is that the starter motor is just sitting there in full view begging to be refurbished. Probably best to do this as the car has done 100k and I really dont want to have to go through this again for a while. Can anyone think of anything else I should while I have all the bits out?
