Re: keys and rear suspension
I've had a V6 for nearly a year and it's amazing how the info available here has corresponded almost exactly with my car's strengths and weaknesses. It has now 101k on the clock and is Jan '99. The worst thing about it by far and I'm sorry all of you who think it's the Best Mod Ever is lowered suspension. I'm ashamed at my stupidity or wonton blindness for not realising it the instant I saw the car. Anyway, I'd recommend staying well clear of cars modded in this way unless you intend using it primarily on the track.
Sorry, rant over. You will read everywhere that, at the age cars like mine are now, you will almost certainly be needing to replace radiator and oil cooler hoses, suspension bushes if they haven't already been done. The implications of loss of oil or coolant are fairly unthinkable and if, say the radiator has been changed then you need to ask if this happened (as it usually does) after a sudden loss of coolant and therefore if the engine might have suffered as a result. Likewise the rear suspension bushes can cause subframe damage if not caught early. Watch out for ill-sealing side windows and damage resulting to the seals around the door aperture - expensive as I recently faund out. I have a suspicion that the side glass stops might not have been properly set on assembly - maybe just a nasty suspicious mind.
Anyway, don't be dissuaded from the fact that any GTV or, I guess Spider, will put a truly great smile on your face for some time to come.
Just a bit of prudence and patience pays off to make sure it's the right one.
Doesn't say that in the manual
