The distance from the centre of the strut (the big centre bolt where the top of the shock is located) to the smaller mounting bolt, is therefore larger on the side with the S/D stamp, by about 5mm, from measuring with a ruler.

Obviously, this means if you change over the mounts, the shock will be out of position and caster will be wrong.

Kinda hard to see in a photo, but is fairly obvious in post #40. The mount over on the left has the longer section at the top of the photo.

So sadly I'm afraid they are indeed different. If they were the same I'd have fitted two new ones myself!
Yep, sadly I agree with all of this now as I went out and had a measure myself too - Bugger! They are indeed different.

I'm lucky with mine as the LH side felt really very good so I am ok for now, but it would be nice to get a solution for all of us (and for myself for the future obviously)

I will see if I can get one apart to try and just replace the bearing - im hoping its as simple as pressing out the central metal post / bush that the shock top goes through - but if anyone has already tried this let us know.

Appologies if my post the other day seemed a bit stroppy - just getting rather frustrated with this situation....

Here are pics of top mounts and bearing after I split the D (RHS) one
Centering the top plate of D on S, they do not match - There is a 10mm difference
There is no way IMHO to replace bearing
Top bloke!

so looks like you took the rivets out to get it apart? I've got my old RH one that I can destroy too to try and see how it ticks.... finding a solution is starting to look unlikely though....

Performance type adjustable top mounts might be the future for the 916 GTV and Spider....

Maybe EB spares or ?? might consider looking into this as they have produced other extinct parts.

Apparently there are no rear suspension cups anywhere either. Not sure if this is temporary or not.

Intrax will make these by fitting a different bearing/bushing in their adjustable top mounts taking the Ø from 16mm (Alfa 145/155) to 14mm (916gtv spider)

..for £200 a corner.

That looks to be a universal fit, probably best thing there would be to contact them and ask if they could make one to fit for a GTV.

Could solve everyone's supply problems then.

As stated above, Intrax will adapt their Asymetrical Alfa 155/145 camber palte/ top mounts to suit GTV by changing the top bearing, for £200 a corner to suit GTV/Spider916.
They are not the rubber bush silent type but rather solid items with camber, caster etc adjust-ability

I dont think those D2 ones will work as inner diameter of the bearing is wrong (too large) and they are not asymmetrical.

plus just look at all that red anodized 7075T6 billet and stainless still hardware ..
Intrax Alfa 155 Camber plates

Will be ordering a set as soon as I have my other suspension issues resolved.

It's a bit annoying that Alfa didn't just use the 155/Fiat Coupe mounts in the GTV!

Good luck if you order a set and let us know how you get on.
