Mr Caine- I'm afraid I can't agree with you on the subject on waxes. There is a clear difference with the more expensive waxes, however I would say that 85% of the finish is achieved through proper preparation such as machine polishing.
If you simply slap a coat or two of a top end wax on a car that hasn't been prepped properly then you really wont reap the full benefits.
I work as a pro detailer and one of the main benefits of using top end waxes is the fact that once the car has been detailed the same finish will come back once washed for a number of months.
I do however agree with your point about number of coats, 7-8 seems far too many. Clearly it depends on the wax that was used, but with all the waxes I use I always leave at least 24 hours between coats, so for example this week I was booked in to do a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano where three coats were applied over a space of three days.
