Alfa GTV Fuel Injection Light on a loses power
I have a '96 GTV T Spark 1.6.
Here's the issue in a nutshell :
The Fuel Injection Light was on for a while but I did not really do anything about it and also for a time I was not topping up the oil in the engine. (No new oil for about 2 months and I probably did over 1000 KMs).
Recently I was on the motorway and the fuel injection light was on (it was always turning on and off) and after driving for about 20 minutes I lost all power to the engine and had to pull over. (The engine temperature was even at 90 which it always is)
After 15 minutes of looking for a tow truck I tried the engine and it started. I was able to set off and get my self to a rest stop and took a look at the engine. I checked the oil level and it was really low so I let the engine cool down for another 10 minutes and set off on the road again. We reached a petrol station and there even though I had petrol inside I topped it up a little and also put in a litre of oil. From there I set off again but the car stopped once more about 5 minutes later.
After that I finally got it towed to my local garage and it has been there for 3 weeks now. They only started taking a look at it last week and this is what they told me : They connected a computer and saw one defective part but replacing it didnt do anything, next piece of news I received was that have no idea what the issue is but they know the engine is not getting petrol and would connect a special computer to see whats up.
My concern now is if I need to go to an Alfa garage they will rape me with their prices and 2 that I might need to buy a new car.
Has anyone experienced this issue previously and if so was the problem big enough that you had to buy a new car because of this problem?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
