I had a new clutch on a r5 gt turbo many years ago and they forgot to put the earth back to the chassis and it would only start 2 out 10 times, this was probably because it was by chance touching on those occasions. Got it reconnected and it was fine. If after the stater problem is resolved it still doesn't start read below.
My girlfriend(Shelly, who i bought the car for) had baby brain while pregnant and ran out of petrol and we too conked out on the forecourt. The car wouldn't restart but would with a spray of brake cleaner into the intake(don't do this with anymore than a squirt of brake cleaner or it will crack the intake, in fact i wouldn't even do this but IF you want to test the theory be careful) but would conk out over 2k revs. Running the petrol low knackered the fuel pump.
A few miss-diagnosed problems/solutions before I sussed the problem not the garages and not advice from specialist and i bought a new pump for about £90. I fitted it and the car started straight away and also the idle is SO much much smoother than it ever was. Lesson Don't run your GTV's low on petrol.
