Is my GTV 916 3.0l compromised because it is fwd????
Okay so here's the thing:
I have a metallic silver 2001 GTV 916 3.0 in pristine condition, with 80,000 km on it. I bought it 5 years ago with only 37,000 km on it.
As one would expect, I have spent fortunes fixing odds and ends over the years (things like electric window motors, fuel tank sensors, et cetera).
But I have also spent quite a lot on doing fun stuff like the Alfaholics handling kit (front and rear, it is excellent), Koni adjustable sports shocks all around, PowerFlex in the rear, Q2 diff, sticky tyres, better discs and pads. When I bought it is had already been fitted with a very nice stainless steel exhaust and it had been decatted. I have since stuck on the Pipercross performance air filter and otherwise lift the motor well alone.
And I love driving it, is really has got to the stage where it does indeed feel completely solid through the corners, with absolutely no body roll and minimal understeer. I take it to the track a couple of times a year for open day and it goes pretty well around the track.
But here's the thing: I have a mate who keeps teasing me about the fact that it is COMPROMISED BECAUSE IT IS A FRONT DRIVE CAR. And the worst thing is that I do find myself wishing that it was a rear wheel drive sports car(I suppose for "purist" reasons more than anything else). Yet when I'm driving it I am not thinking to myself "I wish this was a rear wheel drive". I know I am being silly, but this really irks me because I am allowing it to affect my enjoyment of the car that has taken me so long (and so much money) to get fully sorted. We are so influenced by wild tail slides on Top Gear and the like that we forget that fwd 156 touring cars were killing rwd cars in the early 2000s in the WTCC.
What does everyone else think?? Is it compromised? Should I get rid of it and buy rwd?
