GTV power loss

Hi all,

New to this, so apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. Have a 1999 GTV V6, which has lost power twice now, quite dramatically. 1st time I was driving in pouring rain, and the power cut out, giving the sensation it was only running on 2 cylinders. Managed to limp it to the nearest local specialist. They saw the exhaust downpipes were fractured, and replaced these, thinking that the computer was shutting down cylinders due to too much airflow.

Took it out, overtook a car and suffered a dip in power as I pulled back in. Got to a dual carriageway, and floored it, it started losing power around about 75 mph - decided discretion was better part of valour, so headed back to specialist. Whilst doing so it started raining heavily again, resulting in a more catastrophic loss of power, again giving impression it was only on 2 cylinders. 1/2 way through nursing it back to specialist, power came back on for 5 minutes, then went back down to 2 cylinders, then came back as I limped into the specialist's forecourt.

No warning lights on either occasion.

So - air filter? water in spark plug wells? some other electrical/damp issue?

as downpipes are on the exhaust not inlet side of the engine not sure why there would be too much airflow? do you have a modified induction system fitted- if so where is the inlet located? if too low then water will get in and as a minimum affect the MAF. in any event I would check the MAF in the first instance as it is a relatively quick fix.
