gearbox oil leak

Morning team!... yesterday we fitted a gearbox reversing light switch to my new project (2004 plate GTV JTS) as gearbox oil appeared to be weeping from it. However on removal and closer inspection, there's a bolt just above it which some clown had glued-in with sealant!... it was loose and could easily be removed by fingers... I'm a bit worried now. The bolt just looks like an ordinary bog-standard 8mm jobby to me, but my mechanic wondered if it SHOULD be a 'detent' pin, which some idiot had removed and replaced with THIS!
The box itself was a bit whiny whist driving, which is no surprise given that it took about a litre of oil to top it up again...
... I'm worried that the bolt may have damaged the gearbox threads...had to reseal it back in for now so I could drive it home.
Any thoughts?
