cracked rear strip lights - possible repair or replace ?

Hi all,

Unfortunately whilst I had off the rear lights strip of my 916 spider in cracked in the middle with a hairline fracture could have kicked myself....

It is a hairline crack and from a lot of angles not even noticeable, unless light is shining directly upon that area and being reflected back. The crack is literally right in the middle of the strip.

Question is, anyone any experience of making an invisible repair using a clear plastics glue suitable for such an application - if so what did you use ?

Or should I just bite the bullet and replace the rear strip light with a perfect used one. If yes anyone have one available ? I am in the Maidenhead, Berkshire area.

thanks in advance for your advice from experience.

mine cracked in half, from england to norway, i just glued it. loctite plastic glue works just fine (im sure there are better to actually fuze the plastic together), then i wet sanded the entire light with 600,800,1000,1500,2000,2500,3000. megs 105 with a orange pad, megs 205 with a white pad, then Menzerna sp4500 with a red pad. then opticoat 2.0. Big crack that shows, but you cannot feel it with your hand. which is fine with me. i dont want to waist time with shipping and more broken lights every time. + there is a big chance the long rear light will break in half during shipping.

thanks guys, appreciate your quick response and thoughts. From my experience I agree best not to risk having one shipped, pick up instead is a sensible idea.

good job also on glueing the light strip back together again.

I think I will take my time and lookout for a used light strip in A1 condition at a sensible collect price.

kind regards and have a good weekend
