The vagaries of the Spider auto hood
There are myriad posts here about the problems with the hood mechanism. I have posted and responded to many.
This post is a bit different however. Recently after putting the hood up I noticed that the clamshell was too high on one side. Looking through the passenger mirror I could see it was not lined up - slightly raised. So I tried unlocking it manually so I could re-secure it - nothing, there was no click and the clamshell did not move.
Then I thought OK I'll just lower it and unlocked the windscreen latches to relieve the pressure and tried again - still no joy - that clamshell would not unlock. I then thought that maybe the rubber mallet option would be apposite - tap the end of the shaft whilst pressing the button. However the plastic cog was replaced a year ago and when I pressed the button I could not hear any noise at all. Hmmmmm............
Then I thought that the rear screen was still secured so released that. THEN the clamshell released and I could re-secure it.
To many of you it will be obvious - there is a sequence you must follow and you cannot bypass it - release screen, release clamshell. The next time I tried to lower the hood on the switch - nothing. So I did it manually and then raised it manually which I believe resets it. Today I went to lower it on the switch - no problem. It also raised on the switch later.
Temperamental or what?
