Are CV Joint Gaiters S***e, or What?
I've now lost count of the number of gaiters I've had split on the CV joints of my V6 - mostly inner ones. The last one was fitted a year ago when my Q2 was fitted by Alfa Workshop, and I watched Andy the V6 man do the job right. I consoled myself at the time that 2015 would be the first year I didn't have to shell out for CV joint gaiters at MOT time. And yet, at MOT time this week, the nearside one had split access its width into two parts. MOT fail, significant money to dismantle the driveshaft to get a new rubber (that costs a few pounds) on. Can they really not make these things so they don't fall apart in 12 months and 10k miles? It's not like I rip up the road in the car either - mostly I drive it pretty sedately.
Anyone found a gaiter that cuts the mustard, or have a possible explanation for why mine keep splitting like home made prophylactics?
