Still havent got the final diagnosis from the garage. Im hoping they will phone me today.
£600 for the Quaife from AL (incl the seals and bearings), plus probably another €5-600 to have the rest of the box refreshed, plus fitting. If I go down the Quaife route, im looking at a minimum of €2k by the time im finished. Ive already spent €4k+ on the car this year - so, whilst im usually in for a penny, in for a pound - thats just not going to happen at the moment.
A chap on the Dutch 916 register (who produced and sold me the 166 Brembo brackets) has got a gearbox from a Spider with only 40k miles. Driving perfectly the day it came of the road. Mine for €150.
Perhaps another €100 for some new bearings and seals, €3-400 for fitting and im back on the road for about €700, with a gearbox with about 1/3 the mileage on it.
So, if needs be, thats what ill likely end up doing. If that box goes pop again in 6 months time, than ill look at Quaife etc - for now I just cant justify pouring more 1000s down the neck of the Spider.
