This car is bugging me!!
I was going away with some friends on Friday and I was one of the people driving, so I drove to my friend's house around half an hour away. I pulled up at the house and switched the car off. A few mins later, we then went to set off and it wouldn't start, just kept turning over. I suspected fuel pump failure as you couldn't hear the pump prime when you turned the ignition and it obviously wasn't getting fuel. I couldn't get it going so we went in someone else's car.
Fast forward to Monday, came back to the car and had to get the AA out. He checked the fuel rail and it wasn't getting fuel so took the back seat out to look at the pump. He tested wether it was getting power, which it wasn't so he found the relay, took it out and cleaned it but still nothing. He then started checking fuses and eventually found that the 30A EFI fuse in the engine bay had blown. He replaced that and it then started and ran fine. He said it was unusual for a 30A fuse to blow and to keep an eye on it but it could just be one of those things.
Then today, I went to start it and same thing - turning over but not firing. I checked the EFI fuse and it had blown again. He'd given me a spare so I replaced it and it blew that one straight away. I nipped out to get more and it blew that one straight away. I don't really know where to begin in trying to determine why it's doing this, presumably there's a short somewhere? Can anyone suggest any likely culprits, or has anyone had this happen before?
As an aside, just before it decided not to work, it failed it's MOT today - rear service brake below efficiency, handbrake just scraped through (it was the other way around last year). So I'd spent the morning resetting the handbrake to try and make sure it passed, then it failed on the footbrake, so I then stripped the calipers down, cleaned everything and fitted new pads and then....it won't start
