Just to recap on the actual moment of the possible engine death.
I'd just had the alternator changed, i presume the aux belt must be removed for that, then two days later i am driving along and here a noise that i thought was a plastic bag, like a flapping sound agt the front of the car. About a mile later, i am slowing down for a queue of traffic when the engine/car seems to seze and comes to a sudden halt, all the lights come on on the dash. Traffic queues up around me. I try and start the car to no avail and then used the power of the starter motor to jump the off the road, this then stops working as if the start motor jams(?). From then the car has been push and towed. It was returned to the garage and i was told that they were unable to turn the engine by hand (not quite sure what that means), but no internal exmination of the engine has been made.
Could the problem be something less bad than an engine write off? How could the pistons hit any valves if the cam belt is still in place?
Thanks for any thoughts you might have.
