So, bought my first Alfa last weekend. finally got it home last night
Brief story, a friend of a friend has had it in his garage for 5 years since he couldn't afford an alternator replacement, and it's been sat there ever since. He advertised it on facebook for £400 saturday morning, I offered him considerably less saturday afternoon, and suddenly I owned an Alfa.
My intention was to get it through an MOT and sell on, but the more it's sat there staring at me the more I'm liking it.
What I know about the car:
Alternator needs replacing
pads and discs need replacing (everything seems to be free and moving)
needs water pipes as the front one to the bottom of the radiator looks like it's on it's last legs
Needs a damn good valet.
minimal rust (bit of surface flaking on sills but all solid, will be cleaned, painted and wax-oiled.)
Got all keys. service history up to 2005,
so I have some noob questions:
It's been sat (though rolled around) for 5 years. I'm going to be changing all fluids, pads and discs, and performing the usual pre-MOT checks before it goes in, but what else should I look for? This is the first car I've restored that hasn't already been roadworthy.
I'd like to spruce up the centre console a bit as it looks it's age (imo the only thing letting the car down), is there any trim I can get or anything for that?
carpets inside need a clean as they smell a bit fousty (it has been sat a long while...) any tips?
I've had the registration valued (much more than I paid for the car) and will be looking to sell it on, I'm told the car needs to be taxed (been sorned for at least 5 years) is this so? anyone knowledgeable with Reg no's and transfers?
Thanks in advance for any advice
I will keep this updated over the next 2-3 weeks as I hopefully get it done
