Got my 156 sorted. Had to buy it from penniless daughter who gave it three years of dedicated neglect. £1800 later and the car is now a dream. Had company bmws, audis and mercs before but nothing gave the pleasure of this baby.
Got the bug and hassled the loverly wifey until she agreed that I could have a spider for fun. She has an Elise but refuses to allow me to drive it on a regular basis.
Autotrader web site became standard fayre for about a month until the right one came up. So on Saturday we had a long drive to go and see a 1996 Spider Lusso in red.
Fell in love at first sight and decided that although there must be loads wrong with it, money resolve all faults! (the fool).
So here it is, having had chance to look at it in the cold light of dawn, how much is it going to cost me to get this lot done???
Engine when cold sounds like a diesel but is ok when warm. Sneaky seller had it nicely warmed up for me when I arrived! Buying guide, (BRILLIANT SPIDERMAN) reckons this is the variator what ever that is. Car has done 94K and timing belt done at 72K. Would the variator not have been done at the same time?? Can I do damage by still using it??
Air con does not work and seems like it has had problems since 1995 when the service record shows that an electrical fault was rectified and the system was regassed. Any bids for the cost of this one?
Nearside roof cover catch does not click in but the catch can be activated by pressing with my finger on it, must just be an alignment problem.
Apart from that the car is FANTASTIC!! Goes really well and just NO buffeting with the roof down even at 100mph!! Cannot believe how good this car is.
Any advice on maintenance would be very welcome!
I am a happy chappy TWO super Alfas to play with. WOW
