New Spider- hood problem.

Buggeration, put the hood up this morning and the dratted thing wont quite close properly

The catch on the left side isnt quite locating properly meaning that the hood never fully closes (sits proud by about 5mm). No big deal in terms of security or safety but its a rite bugger because the computer wont let you get in the boot and it bongs at you all day.

I know some other owners have had roof issues - was it the same one? Car is booked in at HRO next weekend anyway to have glow plugs replaced so guess will get it lookedat then.

Re: New Spider- hood problem.

Blooming bad B! nuiscance that chap. Whilst he is no friend of mine, I have been impressed at the reliability, and the efficiency, of the power hood operation of the guy next door's Carrera. It's a '51 machine, which if you look closely, shows the tell-tale signs of having been well used in its life span.:

Re: New Spider- hood problem.

I had a 911 (964) convertible, & the roof was a complete pig. It got to the stage where I didn't want to open the thing, for fear of it not closing properly. There are 2 motors/gearbox's that open/close the roof, one for the left, one for the right. If they aren't completely sync'd, one side would mate with the top of the front screen, the other wouldn't, & sat up proud by a good few mm.
I have no knowledge of the Spider mech, but the symptoms do sound familiar.
Oh, & as an aside, I was told by an independant Porsche techy that the roof motor & gearbox was actually an OEM made by BM bloody W!
Hope you get yours sorted.
