Idea The old 'Good Panda, Bad Panda' routine!

Hello all,

When I was a lad, my Dad had a succession of 5 Fiat Pandas, ending with the highly desireable 4x4 Sisely ;-)

He was of the opinion that you either got a good Panda or a bad Panda; that is, some of them were destined to be a right pain in the *?!* regardless of how well you treated them, whilst others would simply go on and on and on.....with hardly a spanner lifted, let alone a drop of oil added!

Now, it seems to me that the GTV suffers the same fate - most of the requests for mechanical help on this forum have 'me too' comments from a suprisingly regular group of posters. If you are spending muchos dollar on your GTV, have you picked up a bit of a maddam, or is there no such thing as a 'Good Panda' GTV?

Thanks all...I was just wondering!

yep - I know what you mean! I had one of the 'good' 156s before I traded it in for a GTV. Only had it for a few weeks & after 1000 or so miles later it is basically sound. Hope I've got another good one!

All depends on it's keeper, I reckon.: Our Panda, original X, '82, ran and ran. Changed colour a bit, brown patches, on it's original white 'fur', but kept going, albeit aerated. They all respond to kind, loving, plenty of attention, homes.: 4 Fiats, 2 Lancias, 1 Alfa, to date, all so far sweeties, cos' we pamper 'em.

I think theres a deal of good and bad. Yet the good tend to go bad anyway. Afla are not known to make the most robust cars, yet some people here have 170k engines and are happy.

I thought this was a thread about

Re: The old 'Good Panda, Bad Panda' routine!

Before I bought my car from a dealer at 18 months old I noted the contact details of the previous owner and phoned him. He had had no less than 7 GTVs and was buying yet another one (3.2V6). He had kept the one I bought for 18 months instead of the usual year because it was a "good panda". So far, 4 years down the line I agree. Most of my problems have been due to wear and tear of 76k miles or self-inflicted due to the modifications I have done.
I'd hate to have to pay out for a "bad panda".
