Rough idle - resolved (almost)!

At last my rough idle is resolved. Turned out it was a split in the pipe leading from the air filter case. Amazing what an effect this had.

The only problem I have now got is that after revving the car, it sits at approx 1400 rpm and slowly goes down to approx 900rpm. So not totally resolved, but may help some of you with your rough idles. While i'm at it, if anyone can give me an idea about the new problem (which is not as frusrating as the rough idle) I would appreciate it.

Re: Rough idle - resolved (almost)!

Could be the ICV (Idle control Valve)

They get gunked up quite easily.

Re: Rough idle - resolved (almost)!

I had odd/no idle on mine, so took the ICV off and filled it full of Plug Gas and poked it lots with a cotton bud soaked it longer, flushed it, rinsed it, then finally got the, well, "gland" to move under cotton bud pressure.

Emptied, dried, refitted, and it's been lovely (well, you watch, it'll fall over this morning).

Re: Rough idle - resolved (almost)!

Is the car drive-by-wire like the V6 and the later TS ?
Could need to relearn the throttle body settings. Here's the extract from the workshop manual for the V6:
GTV 2959 24V '98 section ENGINE Air supply system 10, page 127 9-1998

Remove battery -ve terminal for 20-30mins, then reconnect
IMPORTANT - During the procedute (from when the instrument panel is powered to the end of the self-learning procedure), do not press either the accelator pedal, the brake pedal or th eclutch pedal.
- make suer the ignition key is at STOP.
- Turn the ignition key to MAR
- Wait for 60 seconds for the ECU to check the throttle internal spring and the maximum/minimum angular positions.
- Turn the key to STOP
- Wait 15 seconds for the ECU to record the learnt values in the EPROM
