Strange noises and other things on my V6
Hi All. OK, I have been working on my V6 for a few months now. It is a V6 with GTA clutch and Flywheel, Q2 diff and 6 speed box which was fitted at Autolusso. I have just changed all the springs, shocks, cam belt as well as fix a number of problems.....however, this problem needs some new eyes on it as I don't want to be changing everything.
The problems are these and they must be all related. There is a clunking when setting off and a vibration when slowing down from speed. When I dip the clutch, the vibrations stop. When the car is ticking over stationary, there is a steady tick or click noise from the gearbox end and when the clutch is dipped, it goes away. when the car is doing a steady speed on a straight flat road, no noises. I have a video which I will try and upload somewhere....
When the car is turning, there is no real noise maybe a whine. When the car comes to a stop, the ABS activates and grinds under the pedal or sounds like a comedy spring going off. I have checked the ABS ECU and all wheel speeds are consistent when the wheels are moving. There are no fault codes...I even disconnected one of the sensors to see if the ABS light had been "amended" but the light came on as expected. I have also cleaned all of the ABS sensors around the car and measured the resistance...all consistent.
I have replaced the inner drivers side C.V. joint following a missing C.V. gaiter and have replaced the rear wheel bearing which was making a bit of din.
I have narrowed this down to a few things it could be...just wanted to know if anyone agrees or has another thought to what could be causing it.
So, I think the Gearbox side driveshaft is shot. I have had the car on axle stands and have spun the wheel...no clicking noise, no play in the wheel but when you move the wheel forward and backwards, there is a clicking sound and there seems to be a bit of travel before the turn engages the click. As stated I have spun the wheel and cant hear any grinding so maybe the wheel bearing is OK? I can't explain why the ABS is kicking in.
Also, when I spin the drivers wheel forward, the passenger wheel turns the opposite direction which I believe is supposed to happen, however, if I do it from the passenger wheel, the drivers wheel doesn't move. If I start the car in neutral whilst the car is on axles, both front wheels turn as if they were engaged in 1st gear....is this supposed to happen?
Any thoughts or suggestions?
