Re: new GTV owner with a few glitches!!
I'd be inclined to check the cooling system is okay... it's more likely that there's an issue in the mechanical parts than a faulty gauge (which still can't be ruled out).
Is the radiator any good?
Does it have air in it?
How old is the thermostat?
What's the water pump doing?
The fan comining on at 103C seems too high. The 'stat should open around 88C, so the temperature should more or less reach 90 on the dial and then drop a bit when the stat opens. It shouldn't climb above 88C in normal driving. 91C sounds like something is struggling a bit.
Fan should come on around 95. If your reaches 103 then either there is some air in the radiator, that is preventing the coolant from using the whole of the radiator to cool itself, or the temperatre sender switch is lazy. It's worth bleeding the cooling system, to make sure you have it at peak efficiency.
The fan switch isn't toooo dear, so it may be worth a punt later on to replace it...
I dunno how you'd check the water pump .. but again, if that's weak then simply it won't be circulating the coolant quickly enough to cool it.
If you drain the system have a physical inspection of the pump and then refill/bleed the system (may be worth sticking a new 'stat and fan switch... depending how lucky you're feeling) then that might sort it.
No bullets for Chaingun..
