I just recently bought a 2000 GTV TS but I'm yet to fully experience it. Saving money for a desperatly needed clutch (i hope its not the gearbox).
Anyway, I posted a thread asking about solutions to various problems. One problem was how to remove the bloody Gearknob in the GTV.
Its unfortunatly not a simpy unscrew job and I was told to just cut the thing off or that heating it up would make it come off more easily.
Well a couple of days ago I went for it with a big knife but quickly realized that thats goona get pretty messy. Plus it kinda feels wrong to be cutting into your new car.
Anyway, as I sat there I tried the following;
As you may know there is a screw at the top of the gearshaft hidden under the leather cover and sitting beneth the actual knob. You can turn that screw just a tiny bit as the leather wont let it go very far at all. However, once you unscrew it a that little bit, there develops a gap between that leather covered screw and the actual knob. At that point you just insert the knife (along its side, not the pointy end) in between the screw and the knob and lift the knob against the leather covered screw. It still takes a tiny bit of strengh, but essentially comes right off.
Hope this makes sense as I think that this is a much easier approach than cutting the thing. Just thought it might be a useful tip for some of you.
