GTV or 147JTD

Having just offloaded my V6 and my Silver Twinny (not my colour) I'm trying to decide if I should go for another GTV or a 147 Diesel (the 03 model). I have a small budget and having seen both of these wondered if anyone had a hands on opinion on how they compare for handling, performance and servicing.

They are both good in their own way; I have both a 147 JTDm and Spider 2.0 TS.

The 147 is a family car - kids, grandkids, dogs and with the back seat down a van. The Spider is my indulgence, a fun car just for me (and sometimes the wife!). The Spider is a nicer car to drive - better feel and feedback - puts a smile on my face and makes me enjoy driving again; I drive it for the sheer pleasure of it, much like I used to ride my motorbike. The 147 though has great torque and a good balance between performance and economy.

If I had to choose: for myself it would be the Spider - but with a family and all the detritus that goes with it, it would be the 147. I'm just fortunate that I can have both.

Good luck with your decision.

PS I might even still have the chip tuning box that would suit an 03 JTD

Gtv all the way , 147 is comfy where the gtv is more alive !
I could also sell you a vela blue 92k full mot, has been keyed (bstards) and has a few knocks about it but rest of the car as a whole very nice with aero spoiler, your not far come and have a look?

Surprisingly everyone's suggesting the GTV with the post being in the GTV / Spider section.

I wonder if you'll get the same response if this is posted in the 147 section?

Again i use a 147 TI everyday and think it's a very good car for my 20k a year that i do. My GTV is my mistress that i visit when i can and love to bits for the fun it gives me.
Also got my brothers 147 on Classifieds

All comes down to annual mileage and practical requirements.

I personally wouldn't use my V6 every day as too nice, too expensive to fuel and from a practical perspective it has none.

If you're doing 20k p.a. then Derv. is way to go, as a TS will need it's belts changing after 36k... One reason why I off loaded my 156 TS a couple of years ago.

147 & GTV are not comparable.

My advice get a JTD GT mate... Best of everything, very practical and very nice looking car too

Forgot to add...

GT diesel can be fitted with a Q2 Diff.
GT has the 147 dashboard
Much better seats than the GTV
Huge boot, as hatchback
I can comfortably sit in the back of my mates GT
Even has a cup holder!!!!... A practical miracle
You'll get up to 600 miles on a long haul.
Plus, you still get the Coupe look.

Well thanks for all your advice. But GTV won it in the end. I think I weighed up the cost between sensibility and passion and I went for the latter. The GTV's looks are still gorgeous and I always remember seeing a silver one down near Battersea Bridge back in 98/99 and thinking I must own one of those....but in red. Having had a V6 and not being able to make the most of it, I have found a red twinnie at a good price with cambelt and mot done. It will be a daily only live once!
