Water in passenger footwell - ah, that's why...
Have suffered from occasional water in passenger footwell for ages and this afternoon there must have been a good inch in there. My GTV's been off the road for year, and now it's back running I want to keep it that way.
My 75, and my Land Rover had both died prematurely due to rusty bulkheads, and I didn't want my GTV going the same way.
So, after a half hour on here reading all the threads on possible causes I rolled up my sleeves and removed the plastic panels from under the windscreen and had a peer about.
I was somewhat staggered to be able to see, directly, the inside of the internal fan peering back at me from a 4x4in hole behind the windscreen wiper mechanism "chassis".
There was a damp trail from the lip on the bodywork below the windscreen which would cause the water to run straight into the fan and onto the carpet. This explained a lot!
On a good day, the lip seal against the windscreen should, I guess, stop water penetrating, but it isn't always a good day. I decided that some sort of additional protection was needed, so 2mins with a Stanley knife and a 6ltr plastic milk container, a couple of holes in the wiper chassis and a couple of pop rivets, the water now has a nice path off the bottom of the windscreen into the bulkhead drain, and hopefully no longer making my daughters feet wet on the way to schoool.
Might explain why my replacement heater thermistor thing died in short order.
I wonder if I'm missing a bit - but even if there was something there - pollen filter? - I think my additional shield would work nicely.
I'd take pics, but the midgeys are biting (I was trying to replace my ariel just now, but the one I've bought is a 10mm hole one, which needs a big old washer bodging to stop it falling through and I'd need to be a gyneacologist to get it all to line up. I'll have a think and try again tommorow).
