Interior LED Conversion - Problem with fuel/clock/temp
There has been a few threads on this before but none to the depth I was looking for, I will do a full how-to shortly. I have been working on this for cough,cough, a few months now but have hit a bit of a brick wall.
I sorted out the white dials for the main instruments - they look very good, and are stock design.
The needles did not illuminate sufficiently with any backlighting LEDs - I have now sorted this out with bespoke needle lighting (see photo).
All other LEDs in the car (windows/sunroof/dimmer/mileage reset/fogs/mirrors etc) have been changed out from green to red. Every last one....a massive PITA.
I have sorted out the white dials for the fuel/clock/temp and also the wiring for the needle lighting.
Problem: There is a PCB within the auxiliary instruments. I have already damaged three separate boards when fitting different LEDs (standard white bulb LEDs in place of normal bulbs). After damaging the PCB there is now only a small voltage across each bulb holder. As the main instruments are dimmed, the voltage across the auxiliary instruments actually increases (& vice versa) but we are only talking between 2 to 8 volts (min & max). Inferior LEDs may have been the culprit but I would like to know what component has been damaged on the PCB(s).
Please have a look at the photo with the PCB and advise if you have seen this sort of thing before. Thanks.
