Issues with my new GTV
I am a new and quite unexpected first time Alfa Owner and a new Member on this Forum.
So, I just got a 2000 Alfa GTV with 90k on the clock (in Australia). I was very quickly amazed at the Italian craftsmanship and its short comings after only 7 short years. hehe…
Basically I have the following issues which are yet to be looked at by a professional.
•There’s a noise coming from the suspension when I go over bigger bumps. I heard bushes are a common problem with the GTV and I was wondering what effect worn bushes actually have, and if the would cause such a noise when going over big bumps. Essentially it sounds like the shocks get squashed together too much.
•There is noise coming from the gearbox (you can imagine my joy). I’m sure the clutch is completely dead as it slips dramatically when going up hill or pushing harder. Is a failure of the clutch know to cause a strange noise coming from the engine bay. It only happens as I go above 20km an hour and it almost disappears at higher speeds. I know this probably not something anyone will know.
•Is the Gear-knob removable? The factory item is just so very ugly that I have no choice but to remove the thing. Unfortunately its seemingly impossible to unscrew. Anyone know how to get it off?
•The Air Bag light is always on, but I already read that this may be fixed with a reset of the computer. Do you know if Alfa computers are easily worked with or do they really need Alfa people to work on them?
•Other than that I find the car has excessive scratching and wear on the interior. Thought at least the interior will be of a good quality standard.
Anyway, I’m surprised at quite the long list of issues on such a young car. Guess, I really didn’t think about the post purchase costs with an Alfa and hope to learn tips and tricks from you guys on how to get the best value for my car.
