I'm a newbie too, but I can hopefully give some info.
What other options are there generally available for this version? Is common to find one with a sunroof?
I don't think I've ever seen one with a sunroof (unless you count the Spider
the GTV was revised in 1999? The 6 speed was added then and the silver dash trim, but what else was modified?
Color coded bumpers and mirrors. I think this makes a huge difference to the look of the car.
It was revised again in 2003? Is that when the 3.2 came in? What other things were modified/changed/made available?
Yes, this is the Phase 3. The front grill is very different ("new" style Alfa). Don't know much else.
essential cambelt change at 36k despite age?
From reading this forum, the V6 is still officially 72k I think but is supposed to be "checked" at 36k. I wouldn't risk it personally. If you search the forums you will find a lot of tales of woe about belts going.
what are the approximate service costs at 36, 48, 60 and 72k miles?
I have just bought a V6 and it came with all reciepts. 36k service was £274 although that included an MOT at £44.
48k seems about the same but this does not include belts and tensioners which were done 4 months later. Can't give an exact price as MOT work done at the same time (total bill £694!!
These are main dealer prices though. If you can find a local specialist they should be a bit cheaper.
I have read that the suspension components can need replacing quite early on, after how many miles is this likely and how much could i be looking at?
The swing arms (front?) were replaced as part of that horrendous bill. Parts were £130, dunno how much of the labour that was.
- Any other things that i should be aware of potential problems wise, any electrical issues common?
Again, from reading this forum, it seems that common issues are:
Oil cooler pipes corroding (often needing a new cooler 'cus the pipes won't come off)
Passenger airbag light.
Any answers would be much appreciated. I´m currently out of the country and cannot wait to get my hands on one when i get home!!
You're welcome. This forum has been invaluable to me whilst researching my purchase so glad I can hopefully give a little back.
